Plan reservations, entry and the right local time

Check cave-tour check-in, vehicle-only entrances, group reservations and Navajo Nation time before your trip.

Book a cave tour with time to check in

Kartchner Caverns tours are guided, and the park recommends booking ahead. Check-in is at least 30 minutes before the scheduled tour; arriving late can forfeit the reservation. Unreserved tickets are not guaranteed. Read the current tour rules before packing because bags, phones and other items are restricted inside the cave, and review accessibility information for the tour you choose.

Plan the return journey as well as the arrival

Lost Dutchman prohibits walk-in entry and hiker drop-off or pickup. Slide Rock admits visitors only by vehicle through its entry station, with no walk-ins, drop-offs or bicycle entries. Saguaro’s west district warns that rideshares may drop visitors off without a reliable return pickup. Decide on a permitted arrival method and a confirmed way home before setting out; a route visible on a map does not establish pedestrian admission.

Reserve the correct facility

The Desert Outdoor Center at Lake Pleasant is a group education facility open by reservation only. Its access is separate from ordinary Lake Pleasant recreation. Likewise, a Kartchner park visit does not automatically include a place on a cave tour. Verify the facility name, tour time and reservation confirmation instead of assuming a general park entry arrangement covers every activity.

Check the destination’s clock

Kartchner’s tour page states that its Arizona time does not change for daylight saving. Navajo National Monument, Canyon de Chelly and Hubbell Trading Post follow Navajo Nation daylight saving time. During that period their clocks differ from much of Arizona. Confirm the local time shown by the park before arranging a tour, a gate arrival or a meeting; this directory uses the appropriate park time zone when grouping weather periods.
